Services offered at the Groote Schuur-MND clinic: A multidisciplinary clinic managed by the neurology service and supported by the GSH paramedical services including dietetics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, and speech therapy. In addition, representatives of the local chapter of the MND support group also attend, reach out to new families and check-in on known patients.

When: Occurring on the last Friday of the month (except December) between 9 -11am.

Where: Neurology side ward (E7)

Services offered at Tygerberg Hospital- MND clinic: A multidisciplinary Neurology clinic with onsite occupational therapist, speech therapist, respiratory therapist and MND Association advisors.
These services are utilised based on the individual needs of each patient, as assessed by the neurologist, and on the same day.

For Appointments:
Access to the clinic is by (1) referral from a healthcare practitioner or (2) self-referred (by patient), provided that a diagnosis of MND has been made elsewhere.

Services offered at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital MND Clinic:

The MND Clinic takes place from 9:00 to 12:00 on the first Friday of every month except for January.

Multi-/interdisciplinary team outpatient service-The team comprises Neurology Consultant and Registrar, speech therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker, dietician, clinical psychologist and palliative care physician. The clinics are also attended by lay counsellors (typically family members of former patients) and representatives of the local chapter of the MND Association.

The clinic caters for PEG-feeding and dietary management, non-invasive respiratory support and a wide range of alternative augmentative communication solutions.

When: The MND Clinic takes place from 9:00 to 12:00 on the first Friday of every month except for January.
