In furthering Joost’s quest to improve access to care for patients and support local research efforts, the directors of both the J9 Foundation and the Joost van der Westhuizen Centre for Neurodegeneration have agreed to optimize resources and build on existing social media audiences by incorporating J9 under the JCN umbrella as a legacy project. All future fundraising efforts will support the objectives of the JCN. We are excited, humbled and privileged to be building on the work that Joost so bravely started.

The J9 Foundation was formed by the rugby legend, Joost van der Westhuizen in aid of those suffering from the same form of fatal illness that he was diagnosed with early 2011, Motor Neuron Disease.
Joost created a platform through this foundation to allow people, companies and friends to support the quality of life programs available within this organization.
The J9 Foundation’s core objectives were to contribute to research in Africa and raise awareness, both locally and internationally for Motor Neuron Disease with the intent of teaching people about the disease who then, in turn, supported efforts across the globe to find a cure or cause.

The J9 Legacy lives on under JCN and together they are working towards Joost ultimate dream.

The J9 logo is a symbol of the every willingness to strive forward and never give in.  No matter how far or how high life´s challenges are.  To fight to the end, to show true courage and valour. This is Joosts Legacy to South Africa and the world, to everyone who watched him carry that number and those words on his back and in his heart.

Let us all be a “J9″ and carry the legacy through the support of the JCN for MND and other Neurological Degenerative disease  sufferers. Let us carry the symbol of a true legend in our hearts and make a difference in the lives of those who need us most.
